Bahaudeen's lack of a strong vocabulary base has been addressed over the course of the past few sessions. Besides getting him to read more factual books, I have been constantly playing vocab games with him and testing him the words we have come across after each session. Through this, he has been able to learn many new words which will be useful in time to come.

I continue to try to get Bahaudeen to read factual books. He is warming up to the idea, and picked a book on 'Green Transport'. This issue that I am trying to address will take more time as he will have to develop a certain familiarity with the topics and issues, and develop an interest that will sustain such an effort.

I have decided to address a new issue that I have discovered with Bahaudeen, which was that he read too many fictional books, and too little factual books. To begin with, I asked him to choose a short factual book in order to keep his attention span in check. I also did not want to bore him on the first fictional book he picked up. He responded quite well although he was pretty hesitant at the start.

Today I decided to focus on the punctuation problem that Bahaudeen had. I demonstrated several sentences to him, and he got the general idea. Although he was pretty shy to let loose his expressions at the punctuation marks, he soon warmed up to the idea and was able to inject life into the sentences. He also paused at the full stops and commas. Problem pretty much solved. In addition, he seemed to skip words less.

Today I tried to get Bahaudeen to read a book without my instruction and interference. I noticed that despite using the 'finger-pointing' method, he continued to rush at certain parts of the book. I realized that it was generally at the climax of the book where the problem was most severe. Probably out of excitement and anticipation, he would skip the words. I believe with further practice the problem can be overcome.

Today, I got Bahaudeen to read a book out loud, and tried to address the most serious problem he had, which was the guessing of words in the sentences. I instructed him to point at the words he was to be reading, and read them at a slower pace. There was a marked improvement as he was able to read the sentences smoothly with accuracy.

Bahaudeen is an intelligent kid that has a reasonably good command of the english language. Today as I observed his reading skills for the first time, I realized that he had several reading problems. He frequently paused at the wrong times, and failed to produce any expression at question marks and exclamation marks etc. At certain parts of the sentences, he would look beyond where he was reading and guess the words in between. These are some of the problems I will be keen to address.
