Theora 10th April 2011
Theora read a different book today. I tried to teach her basic phonics, and the pronunciations of alphabets etc. She responded with a sense of trepidation, as if to have little trust in me. I also read slowly with her, and I realized that she seemed to memorize words as she went along with the book. For example, if we were to come across the word 'meal', she would not be able to pronounce it first time round. However, after i tell her how it is read, she memorizes it and if we were to come back to that word after 15 minutes, she would have forgotten. More effort has to be put into improving Theora's reading foundation, but first I have to built a friendship between her and myself. No remarkable progress as of now.
Theora 3rd April 2011
Today I met Theora for the first time and I found out several critical issues that have to be addressed. She had an extremely weak phonics foundation and was unable to pronounce several words that would be expected of a 7 year old, primary school student. In addition, she is extremely shy and does not read with understanding. Through flash card games etc, I hope to help her improve.
